Vivian Creek to Summit

October 15 John picked me up at my place about 6:30 AM. We met Scott at the Denny's in Corona and headed for San Gorgornio on the Vivian Creek trail. This is a great hike. The trail ascends at relatively the same rate all the way to the summit. We got our permit and headed out on the trail just after 8:00 AM. There were several parties going up and coming down. It was a great day. There was still snow on the northern faces from the storms earlier in the week. I loaded down my pack to get in some good training for San Jacinto hike on October 27. I definitely got a work out.

I only made it to about 10,500 feet, 1000 feet short of the summit. I was having serious problems. I just wanted to sleep. I decended to about 10,000 feet and rested for a while. I got some good picutres of San Jacinto from here.

From there I went down to High Camp at around 9200 feet. I slept for a while and hoped John and Scott would meet me there. I was having bad dreams that John was trying to wake me up so I got up and headed down. I stopped often along the way to rest. They finally met up with me a little ways up from Half Way camp. They had summited and were waiting for me for over an hour on the summit. I think I would have been in even worse shape had I summited. John and Scott made it back to the car about 7:00, I was a few minutes behind them. We ended up in the dark for the last mile or two of the trail.
