Lowenbrau Pinnacle
On January 7, 2001, Bob and I headed to Lowenbrau Pinnacle which is located just off I-8 about 45 minutes East of San Diego. We got there about 9:00 AM after I picked Bob up at 6:30. This is what we saw.
Once we hiked up there and circled around to the other side we saw this:

The first climb we did was the one marked in Red. It is a bolt ladder to the top. I led the first pitch to the chains and Bob cleaned. This picture of me on lead makes the rock look larger then it really is.

I lowered Bob and he tension traversed over to the second bolt ladder where he led to the top.

Here is a nice picture of him leading to the top. You can tell from the pictures that the weather was perfect. There wasn't even much wind.

I had a bit of fun lowering off the chains, it was my first time. I had been practicing lowering in the garage and I guess it payed off, except I didn't have enough slack. I was about 7 or 8 feet from being in line with the second bolt ladder and I was out of rope. I let the loop go and went for a little swing. Some video would have been nice. Maybe next time.
Next we did the green route. Bob led a thin crack to the first rivet. It was all rivets and bat hooks to the top, with a good 15 or 20 foot section of pure bat hooking. Bob lead with no problem and fixed a static line. I jumared to the first rivet and then led to the 3rd hook after the bolt. I was using the static line as a back up. Multiple hooking moves still freak me out. I rapped down and started packing up. It would have taken me another 20-30 minutes to finish the route and I wanted to get back to the car before dark. Bob jumared up and down the fixed line a few times while I was packing up and then we headed out. I can't wait to go back.
