Snow - Page 2?
Here I am topping out on the ridge. Where's the snow?
The next few pictures are out of order. Deal with it. This is a picture down the route from pretty near the entrance to the chute.
Here we are finally entering the chute.
I think we are back in order now. Here is a picture from the top of the route.
Most of the way from the ridge to the summit was covered in snow. When we got to the area around 9500', the sun was just setting. There was a good snow cover. The weather was so nice a guy was sleeping in a sleeping bag with no tent just a few hundred yards from this spot.
And finally after being on the mountain for 8 hours, we made it to the summit. We defy all the alpine fast/light rules by going slow and heavy. We don't care since we have fun.
This was one of my best times on Baldy. This was my first chute and first winter night summit of Baldy. This was Kris's first night summit, first winter summit, first winter night summit, and first chute on Baldy. This was Moody's FIRST SUMMIT OF BALDY, first night summit, first winter summit, first winter night summit, and first chute. I think the 12+ hour round trip was justified considering what we did.
On the way down we stopped at the hut and chatted with Tracy for a bit. Then we hiked out. Nothing to eventful after that except we all have knee problems and it takes us twice as long as anyone else to walk from the hut to the car.
And finally the after shot. Keep hoping for snow!
